Short Story: Travel Of Wind

The Travel Of The Wind
by Jake Cuamag

Come fleeting from the vast space of the heavens. Came down from the bluest of the sky. Swept down to the memory who thumb marked from the clouded void. A boy, staring up, waiting for a ride to reach the town. Feeling the wind as it travels through his face. He stood minutely in between the lengthy fields of pineapple of which on a nook a guard house stood, he waited. A couple of motorbikes passed by attempting he could get one of those as he thought it would be a huge disappointment for he could not dare to shout not even speak. He remembered his age as he guessed it may not reach him for his next birthday trying to be patient for a hitch. He looked at his pocket, there was nothing to grab except some thread from the loose edge. “I know you are in there somewhere. I’ll wait maybe forever to catch you even if you’re just a wind.” he dreamed.

As he was idled by his delution, a lorry seized his dream and he went back to reality. He should be going to the town to purchase things he needed for the week. A loaf of bread, a can of juice, jars of jams, a cheese block, panini and sometimes he thought he needed to buy wine instead of milk. He took that in mind as he waved his body to catch the driver’s attention. The lorry stopped and let him took a hitch to the market which is thirty minutes to reach. The boy said “Thank you sir” as he sat down beside this clean shaved, gray haired man holding on to the wheels looking at him as he settles in his seat. The old man then asked “Where to?” although obviously he knew where he was headed for this boy had a basket on his arm. The boy smile and said “Well, I can be dropped anywhere near the market but if you…” He stopped and his jaw dropped. “Boy, what are you supposed to say? Are you okay?” The old man tapped the boy on his shoulder and wobbled him as if he was waking him up from sleeping. He examined the boy and he noticed he was looking up in the sky through the window. The boy jumped off the lorry leaving the grocery basket behind. He walked slowly and headed towards the pineapple plain as he slowly took large steps until he realized that something is falling from the sky. A big flying object, maybe a bird but it has clothes on. He then decided to leap and run to pace up with what is falling down. He saw the figure and he recognized it was not something, it was someone falling fast from the void. It was a girl.

End of chapter one.
